The Bible.

Translation: Douay-Rheims Bible, translated from the Latin Vulgate. The New Testament was first published by the English College at Rheims in 1582 and the Old Testament at Douay in 1609 and 1610. Bishop Richard Challoner revised the whole text in 1749 to 1752. Public domain. This is the traditional English Catholic translation, and the one we quote throughout the site. Our text comes from Project Gutenberg eBook #1581.

A modern Catholic translation (for example the NABRE, approved for use in the United States, or the RSV Second Catholic Edition) will be added only when its publisher grants permission. Until then we show only this public-domain text.
