After a long and dangerous voyage, a Spanish priest lands at Goa.1
He goes through the streets ringing a little bell, inviting the children to come and hear the word of God.1
He was one of the first companions of Ignatius of Loyola. In ten years he carried the Gospel from India to Japan.

He preached in India, then met a Japanese man called Anger, and in 1549 set out with him for Japan.1
He died on the island of Sancian, off the coast of China, on 2 December 1552.1

In 1927 Pope Pius XI proclaimed St Thérèse of Lisieux patron of the missions along with St Francis Xavier.2
One man crossed half the world. One young nun never left her convent. The Church put them side by side.
